Tinhorn Creek Vineyards Recognizes Hans Fischer

On Sunday, September 8, 2013, Tinhorn Creek’s good friend and colleague, Hans Fischer died peacefully in South Okanagan Hospital in Oliver; his extended battle with cancer is now over.

Hans was the original owner of the Fischer Vineyard, which he purchased in 1982, this vineyard comprised part of the acreage that started Tinhorn Creek Vineyards and remains part of the winery estate, as we know it today.

After selling his vineyard to current owners Kenn Oldfield and Bob Shaunessy in 1994 Hans Fischer stayed on as Tinhorn Creek’s first Vineyard Manager to assist with the development and maintenance of the vineyards until his retirement in 2002.

“Even after retirement, Hans was a fixture around the winery,” says Kenn Oldfield, “ever present with his unique wit, and a twinkle in his eye. He will be greatly missed, his knowledge of our land and its history made a unique contribution that has been invaluable to our success.”

Kenn and his wife Sandra Oldfield, President, CEO & Winemaker at Tinhorn Creek and the rest of the team at the winery send heartfelt wishes to the family and friends of Hans Fischer.
