Mary Zinck, Manager of Travel Media at Tourism Whistler

Superstar PR Mary Zinck is always a ray of sunshine even in the depths of a snowy winter. We work with Mary to bring media guests to Whistler through our client Nita Lake Lodge and Mary’s positive approach makes her a joy to work with. Here are Mary’s Whistler hotspots and tips for 2016…

An ideal day in Whistler…

“Skiing on a bluebird day is always a fantastic experience but I also love snowshoeing. I bought a pair last year and it’s so peaceful – it’s also great exercise and I can bring my dog Gus. I’d enjoy apres, of course, at GLC or Dubh Linn Gate and then I’d head to the Scandinave Spa to soak in the hot baths. If I decided to really treat myself, I’d have a massage at Nita Lake Lodge or Four Seasons!

“In the summer I love to take an early morning hike with Gus and then shop at the Farmers’ Market before meeting some friends on the GLC or Cure Lounge patio for afternoon bites. I’d head to a lake at some point for Gus and I to cool off too.”

Favourite viewpoint in Whistler

“There are so many! I’ll go with the top of Whistler Mountain – whichever way you turn there’s another gorgeous view of the mountains, the Village and lakes…and more mountains.”

What to eat in Whistler

“Food is a passion for me so this list could be endless but some of my favourites include: everything on the menu at Pure Bread but my go-to is the lemon blueberry basil scone; coffee/latte from Mount Currie Coffee; SASS roll & spicy agedashi tofu from Sushi Village; every soup that Melissa Craig at Bearfoot Bistro makes; Black Forest cake and lemon tart at Araxi; elk tartar and every bread pudding dish created at Alta Bistro; Buddha Bowl at Green Moustache and crab eggs benny at The Wildflower.”

Favourite drinking spot in Whistler

“I love wine and  fortunately for me I can find a wine of my liking at almost any establishment in this town as the Whistler sommeliers really know their stuff! In an effort to narrow it down I’ll say that the Gin & Tonic menu at Bar OSO is stellar!”

Events to look forward to in 2016

“I can’t wait to see the Audain Art Museum opening. I’m always excited for the Araxi Longtable Dinner in Pemberton, of course I love Cornucopia, which is turning 20 in 2016 and it’s the 10th anniversary of the  Deep Winter Photo Challenge at the Fairmont – that’s always a lot of fun and the whole town comes out to celebrate.”

New Year’s resolutions

“I’m not much of an adrenaline junkie, especially compared to most people here in Whistler. That said, I made a resolution in 2010 to get out there every year and try at least one thing that is out of my comfort zone and I’m going to keep with that one. I’ve since done the Via Ferrata, the Bike Park a few times, ZipTrek and Superfly ziplines, rafting the Elaho River and more…I have yet to muster the courage for bobsleigh and skeleton but it’s on my list!”
