Halloween Hot List Activities and Events

Halloween is one of those events that always creeps up on us (no pun intended)! On this last day to prepare, we decided to round up a Hot List with everything from our favourite Halloween parties to fun, last-minute DIY activities.

Nothing quite epitomizes Halloween like good old pumpkin carving. If you haven’t gotten a chance yet, pay a visit to your local pumpkin patch. Get together with a close friend to bring back those fun childhood memories and pick out the pumpkin with your name on it! For carving, we love this beautiful technique by Martha Stewart for a delicate lacelike lantern this year. Or if you prefer a sleeker look, try painting your pumpkins with a warm hue or metallic paint as spotted in the October issue of Chatelaine. Swoon!

Can’t decide on a party? Two great events on our rader are Room Service Halloween Party at Killjoy with $4 Heineken, $7 doubles and table service starting at $150. Guests can enjoy their favourite Killjoy cocktails as DJ Justle & guests spin top hits late into the night. For a night out with the ladies you won’t want to miss Angels & Demons Halloween at Bar None, will an all female DJ line-up and prizes awarded to the top 2 costumes. Partygoers will also enjoy live conga, violin and sax players and Hush Magazine go go dancers. Not feeling the nightlife scene? Why not bundle up, get a group of friends together and check out the legendary Dunbar Haunted House? One of Vancouver’s spookiest attractions!

Don’t fret last-minute decorations this year! TLC makes it quick and easy with a long list of fun and unique Halloween DIY décor ideas. Or if you’re really tight for time, simply jazz up some plain canvas totes laying around the house for cute trick-or-treat bags for the kids.

There is something about baking that always gets us into festive spirits. How about making some fun Halloween inspired treats? For a spooky suprise for the kids, try your hand at this classic worms in dirt recipe made with crushed cookies and gummy worms. For something a little more sophisticated but traditional, try out these cute mini pumpkin pies spotted on Offbeat & Inspired made perfectly in Le Creuset mini cocottes. Not a baker? Or maybe you just don’t have time? Try the mouthwatering Bel café pumpkin cheesecake or orange and licorice macaron!

Happy Halloween!
