Cause We Care About Moms

Mum is definitely the word this Mother’s Day. To pay tribute to all that moms have to do day in and day out (with no sick days or holidays), Cause We Care Foundation celebrates motherhood by offering a ‘hand up’ to single mothers and their kids in need throughout the lower mainland.

Organizing many initiatives throughout the year, Cause We Care’s vital community services include: after-school programming; spring break programs; the YWCA Cause We Care House (slated to open 2015), a joint project with the City of Vancouver, the Vancouver Public Library and the Vancouver YWCA that will include a new, full-service public library along with up to 21 units of subsidized housing and program space for single mothers and children; annual hamper drives; proceeds from the sales of specially-branded Blue Ruby bracelets and Aritzia t-shirts; and partial proceeds from Halo Salon services, benefiting the charity.

“Mother’s Day is the perfect time for us all to honour, remember and give back to the moms in our lives,” says Andrea Thomas Hill, founder of Cause We Care. “Through our annual Mother’s Day initiatives, we’re able to provide much-needed essentials to single mothers and their children living in poverty across our community.”

This Mother’s Day, help the Vancouver-based foundation and show you care:

Hamper Drive: Give or Gift a Donation
Partnering with Army & Navy, Cause We Care’s 7th annual hamper drive on Thursday, May 8 will ensure single moms living below the poverty line receive a special ‘Care Package’ filled with necessities such as toiletries, cleaning supplies and bus passes, as well as a gift card from Army & Navy. Each $65 donation will fill a laundry hamper, and deliveries will be made to more than 14 frontline organizations, including inner city schools and subsidized housing facilities throughout Greater Vancouver. This Mother’s Day, consider making a donation on behalf of the special mom (or mother figure) in your life. She will receive a Mother’s Day card, making her aware of this special gift. Visit www.causewecare.org to donate, volunteer and tell a friend.

Blue Ruby: Fashionable & Charitable
Wear your heart on your sleeve and help the cause with a brand new set of Blue Ruby’s beautiful handcrafted bracelets. Prices range from $20 to $75 and – best of all – 100% of the proceeds go to supporting programs and initiatives, such as after-school care, single mother workshops and emergency funding for single mothers in need. These bracelets make the perfect Mother’s Day gift while also supporting single mothers in need. www.blueruby.com

Aritzia: Look Good & Feel Great
Be trendy and put “Women And Children First” with Aritzia’s uber-trendy La Notte T’s – that are only available at select Aritzia stores and online. Proceeds from these new graphic-driven t-shirt designs will help support the YWCA Cause We Care House. www.aritzia.com

Halo Salon: Coif it up for a Cause
Get a new up-do while doing some good. On Saturday, May 10, Halo Salon will donate a portion of proceeds from its services towards Cause We Care initiatives. Call 604.730.1355 to book your appointment. www.halosalon.ca

“It’s through these significant community partners that we’re able to raise awareness in helping more single mothers and children throughout Greater Vancouver,” adds Hill. “Our goal for this Mother’s Day Hamper Drive is to raise enough funds to fill 350 hampers – and we couldn’t do this without the support of our community partners and donations.”
