Uncork the Sun in Oliver this July 7th
Kick start the Summer Wine Festival with Uncork the Sun, an outdoor concert and wine tasting event taking place on Thursday July 7th. Hosted by Oliver Parks & Recreation, Oliver Osoyoos Winery Association (OOWA) and the Oliver Tourism Association (OTA), the event takes place from 6-10pm at the Oliver Community Park.
“It will be a pleasure to showcase the 39 wineries of Oliver Osoyoos Wine Country at this annual event that draws both locals and visitors,” says OOWA Executive Director Tony Munday. “There is no better way to celebrate summer in the Wine Capital of Canada and support the Oliver Sunshine Festival than attending a fun, interactive wine tasting event like this one.”
The Uncork the Sun is the official fundraiser for the Oliver Sunshine Festival, which provides two days of free entertainment for the whole family on July 8th and 9th.
Local favourites RUMBLE100 will be taking the stage to entertain and start the celebrations. In the short time since its formation, RUMBLE100 has rocketed to the forefront of the Okanagan event scene, accelerated by its high-energy performances and popular song selections. This band delivers a sing-out-loud brand of rock music intended to captivate a crowd and keep them partying all night long. The set list for the four-piece rock and classic rock cover band encompasses a wide range of song favourites, from AC/DC and Tragically Hip to Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars.
Concert-goers can enjoy the live entertainment while sipping various locally-produced wines and beers. The 3rd Annual “Top Dog” Culinary Challenge will see defending champion Farm Chef Derek Uhlemann (Covert Farms) go head-to-head with other local chefs to create a signature hotdog featuring locally-sourced ingredients. The chefs will have just one hour to prepare the hot dogs and sides for service before being asked to introduce their “dog” by name and describe their dish to the hungry crowd. Votes will be cast and one chef will earn the title of Oliver’s “Top Dog”.
Tickets for the fun-filled ‘Uncork the Sun’ event cost $30 for adults, $15 for students and children and free for the under 8. Tickets include a souvenir wine glass, three tasting tickets, gourmet hot dogs and live entertainment. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Oliver Visitor Center and the Oliver Community Centre, as well as at the gate while quantities last.
