TIFFANY & CO. CELEBRATES THE MAGIC OF THE GIFT-GIVING SEASON WITH ITS 2017 HOLIDAY WINDOWS

Tiffany & Co. captures the magic of the holiday season with the unveiling of its famous windows starring a perennial favourite—the Tiffany Blue Box®. The fabled Fifth Avenue flagship store windows pay homage to the unparalleled craftsmanship long associated with the luxury jewellery house, as well as Gene Moore’s iconic visual displays. This year’s holiday windows continue the Tiffany tradition of showcasing masterful design alongside a signature Moore motif—articulated wooden drawing figures in playful scenarios.

“Our windows reflect Gene Moore’s pioneering vision of juxtaposing witty and humorous narratives with the highest level of craftsmanship,” says Richard Moore, vice president, creative visual merchandising, Tiffany & Co. In keeping with this legacy, Tiffany & Co. commissioned Austrian luxury glassmaker Lobmeyr to create 10 to 15 miniature versions of their classic “starburst” chandelier to grace the five flagship store windows. This timeless design, first unveiled when the New York Metropolitan Opera opened in 1966, this dazzling mini replica features 300 crystals in each chandelier.

The silk backdrop that illuminates each window vignette was custom-made by the historic, family-owned Rubelli textile workshop located on the Grand Canal of Venice. The silk fabric features more than two million stars, which are in fact, hand-cut paper snowflakes that were designed at the Tiffany studio in New York and sent to Rubelli to weave the pattern. More than 10 prototypes were produced before the final product was delivered. “Our creative team begins the ideation process for the windows a year in advance and it takes an additional four months to complete one window from start to finish,” says Moore.

The windows illustrate the magic of giving a Tiffany gift while the handcrafted elements and theatrical lighting draws the eye to the sparkling Tiffany product on display. A brilliant Tiffany Soleste® engagement ring shines on a hook in a scene depicting a mannequin ice fishing surrounded by diamond-dusted trees. Another window showcases a whimsical figure holding an Atlas® bangle while balancing atop a yo-yo from the Home & Accessories collection. Tiffany Blue® is woven throughout each window display in the form of Tiffany Blue Boxes, as well as hand-knit hats, scarves and earmuffs, which add a touch of the iconic brand colour to each wintry scene.

The holiday 2017 windows are a tribute to Moore’s love of creating atmospheric displays with both glamour and wit. In one scene a figure depicts an ice carver sculpting Jean Schlumberger’s Bird on a Rock surround by exquisite fine jewelry from Tiffany Victoria®and Tiffany Cobblestone collections. The world has been enthralled with the distinctive Tiffany Blue Box®, which is prominently featured in a scene where a figure pulls a giant wreath made of boxes, while Tiffany Keys elegantly dangle from its centre.
