Seventh Annual Fishing for Kids Tournament Brings Together Industry, Community Leaders and NHL Stars in Support of Canucks Autism Network
Marking its seventh year as one of the Pacific Northwest’s most acclaimed charity events, Fishing for Kids returns to the West Coast Fishing Club from August 26th to 29th, 2012, benefitting the Canucks Autism Network (CAN). Since its inaugural event in 2006, more than 3 million dollars has been raised for beneficiaries – this year, organizers expect the total to jump close to the 4 million dollar mark, a remarkable milestone for a group of just 42 anglers.
The sold-out event brings together business and community leaders. This year’s high-profile NHL participants include Vancouver Canucks stars Dan Hamhuis and Manny Malhotra as well as Vancouver Canucks’ owners Francesco and Paolo Aquilini, President and GM Mike Gillis and Assistant GM Laurence Gilman. Former Canuck and current Stanley Cup Champion Willie Mitchell will return to his native BC to compete once again in the tournament he helped found.
During the competition, guests stay at The Clubhouse, one of the West Coast Fishing Club’s unique fishing lodges on the dramatically beautiful Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands), where gourmet meals are created by guest chef David Hawksworth (Chef of the Year) of Hawksworth Restaurant. Participants and their spouses are also treated to an intimate send-off at Reflections at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia with a private concert by the Canadian Tenors – fundraising has never been so enjoyable!
