Hawksworth Scholarship Announces Celebrity Chef Fundraising Dinners

Vancouver, BC (May 10, 2017) Competition is heating up in the Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship’s 2017 search to find Canada’s top chef under 28. Hundreds of applicants from around the country have been whittled down to 10 in each regional final. The top two from each heat will go through to the black box final in Toronto this October for the chance to win $10,000 and an international stage.

Canada’s most celebrated chefs will be taking part in judging and hosting collaborative fundraising dinners to raise money for the Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship foundation to support, mentor and inspire young chefs working in professional kitchens across the country.

“We’re thrilled to have the support of the nation’s top chefs as judges and collaborators for our cross-Canada competition and dinners,” says Scholarship Founder Chef David Hawksworth. “We’re grateful to them all for generously giving their time and are also thankful to all of our sponsors, such as Air Canada that have helped make this possible.”

Heats kick off with the Toronto Regionals on May 15, followed by the Fundraising Dinner on May 16, where Chefs Mark McEwanSylvain Assié and David Hawksworth will be cooking a five-course dinner at Cafe Boulud at the Four Seasons.

Montreal Regionals are up next with the contest and Fundraising Dinner on May 19, prepared by judges Chefs Marc-André Royal, Jérémie Bastien and David Hawksworth at La Bête à Pain. The Vancouver Regionals and Fundraising Dinner follows on May 26, with Chef David Hawksworth and guest chefs Vikram Vij and Adam Pegg preparing a multi-course gourmet dinner in Hawksworth Restaurant’s elegant York Room.

Alberta hosts the Calgary Regionals on June 17 and a Fundraising Dinner the same day featuring Chefs Connie De Sousa, David Hawksworth and Paul Rogalski held at Charbar at Le Germain Hotel. Finals will be held in the fall with a gala dinner event to be announced soon.
