Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship’s final & reception move east this Fall

Vancouver, BC (October 10, 2017) – Selected through a series of regional heats held in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary this past spring, eight of the nation’s top young chefs will compete in Toronto this October. Held on October 14th at George Brown CollegeHawksworth Young Chef Scholarship will announce this year’s winner, awarding them the highest nod and the grand prize of $10,000.
“From Vancouver Island to the Maritimes, the past six years have shown just how much Canada has to offer the culinary industry,” explains the Scholarship’s founder, David Hawksworth. “By moving the final eastward to Toronto, we’re welcoming a new chapter for the scholarship by showing our commitment to Canada’s thriving culinary scene as a whole.”
 This year’s contendors include Andrew Lecky (Langdon Hall) & Josh Adamo (Auberge du Pommier) of Toronto, Jonathan Morrison (JonTLR Private Chef, The Living Room Dinner Club) & Massimo Piedimonte (Le Mousso) of Montreal, Soloman Mason (La Bussola) & Connor Sperling (Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar) of Vancouver and lastly Garrett Martin (Bridgette Bar) & Julia Gindra (Fairmont Hotels) of Calgary. Competing against each other, and the clock, each chef will receive an identical ‘black box’ of unknown ingredients, supplied in part by Gordon Food Servlce Canada and Club House for Chefs. Using these mandatory items and a pantry selection of common ingredients, each young chef will have two hours to create a unique and flavourful dish to wow the panel of judges, made up of some of Canada’s leading culinary masters such as Mark McEwan of The McEwan Group, culinary & travel journalist Sarah Musgrave, Lee Cooper of Vancouver’s L’Abattoir and Oliver & Bonacini’s Anthony Walsh.
The final competition will also be followed by an evening reception held at Oliver & Bonacini’s beautiful Aperture Room. Complete with food, wine and the chance to mingle with the judges and finalists, the fabulous event will celebrate the 2017 winner and another successful year of the Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship.
