Drink of the Week – ‘Kyushu Caipirinha’ from Minami Restaurant
This week’s Drink of the Week is a ‘Kyushu Caipirinha’ from Minami Restaurant which recently opened in Yaletown. The hot new sister restaurant to Miku Restaurant has garnered quite the buzz, already considered among the best Japanese restaurants this city has to offer. Both restaurants are known for their signature ‘aburi’ (flamed) sushi, flavoured with a secret sauce specific to each variety of fish. Minami balances traditional technique and service with a trendy atmosphere, and food and beverage philosophy. At the bar guests will see an extensive sake list, wine menu and an original cocktail program designed by 2010 Vancouver Magazine’s ‘Bartender of the Year,’ Shaun Layton. Owner Seigo Nakamura runs 9 restaurants in Japan but is now invested in Vancouver, having moved here and naming his restaurants after his daughters.
One of our favourite cocktails is the Kyushu Caipirinha, a refreshing mix of passionfruit juice, Campari and Caipirinha.
