Drink of the Week – Grimbergen at The Irish Heather Long Table Series

DOTW

Last Sunday we joined the Irish Heather for their popular Long Table Series. At 7pm an intimate group of guests flocked to the signature 40-foot-long communal table for a traditional ‘Sunday Dinner’ of roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, winter vegetables and roasting jus. A hearty home-cooked meal, good people, and great value (at just $18 including artisan beer), this was a great way to end the week!

Owner Sean Heather introduced the series originally as an alternative dining experience for folk when the recession was biting hard, however the LTS has endured because it provides such a unique experience at a great price.

This week’s Drink of the Week features Grimbergen beer that was paired with the dinner. This unique beer is produced by Belgian brewery Alken-Maes, although it’s said to have originally been made by monks – the first beer brewed at Norbertine Abbey in Grimbergen, Belgium. Craig Robinson, representative for the brewery, attended the dinner and introduced the beer, recommending we cup the glass with our hands to warm it up to really enjoy the changing flavours!
