Terry Threlfall Joins La Pentola della Quercia as Consulting Wine Director
Expert sommelier Terry Threlfall has joined La Pentola’s team of knowledgeable staff as consulting wine director; taking the wine list back to the restaurant’s Northern Italian roots and bringing more than a decade of wine industry experience to the table.
Chef-duo Adam Pegg and Lucais Syme of Vancouver’s award-winning La Quercia restaurant deliver artfully crafted, Northern Italian cuisine at La Pentola della Quercia, inside OPUS Hotel Vancouver. Threlfall will be taking inspiration from their Italian-flavoured menu to create a unique wine program that focuses on Northern Italy and includes a range of BC wines that showcases local wineries and fully complements the locally-sourced produce used at La Pentola.
Expect varietals such as Barola and Barbaresco from the Northwestern Piedmont region of Italy and Pinot Grigio, Pinot Blanco, Valpolicella and Amarone from the Northeastern Veneto area, as well as some excellent Okanagan gems.
Certified by the International Sommelier Guild, Threlfall began his career in Vancouver working at respected restaurants such as West before moving to the UK and joining London’s Michelin-starred Chez Bruce restaurant as Head Sommelier and Wine Buyer. After five years with Chez Bruce, Threlfall returned to Vancouver in 2011 to open Hawksworth Restaurant as Wine Director. In October 2012 he went freelance to pursue consultancy work and focus on mentoring and international judging engagements. Last year Threlfall was awarded Sommelier of the Year by Vancouver Magazine, the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival and Sunset Magazine – he was also named one of the ‘Top Foodies Under 40’ by Western Living Magazine.
